My apple trees are suddenly covered with something that looks like white fur. I presume it's a fungus or something. I have gone through all my gardening books and can find no reference to it. (I've probably got the wrong books.) Would be grateful if any viners could tell me what it is and what I do. The apples seem to be growing OK.

Try woolly aphid - I have this perennial problem. Its very difficult to control, but as long as you try to control it the apples grow Ok on a well established tree.

A picture would be very helpful as it could be almost anything. I had thought of lichen but don't know if you would class that as woolly. Location in your profile is also a help sometimes. Could also go along with SN on the woolly aphid trail.
