I planted two rhubarb crowns late last year; they have grown nicely and have flowered, and these have died back - do I need to pull these out now, or do I leave them ?

The problem is I have been rather short sighted as to where I planted them and haven't given them enough space - they are in the 'long term' patch of the allotment - along with the strawbs, rasps, asparagus etc - and are too near the asparagus bed, when can I move them and will have have to wait another 12 months before harvesting when I do?

If they are in the wrong place then move them - winter is the best time though. You should really have cut the flowers off when they started to form - I am not sure how the crowns fare after being allowed to flower.

i would pull out all the old leaves etc autem/winter is the best time to move them but i dont think there would be any harm moving them now as long as they go in with some decent manure and plenty of water

thanks for the info - I'll give them til autumn and prepare a lovely manure bed for them! I wasn't sure what to do when they flowered as they were new crowns and I know I'm not to crop them until they're 12 months old - I hope I haven't done the wrong thing!

Brynley yes you can, but it takes a fair old time.
If you're a patient gardener (is there such a thing??) then seed is no worries, but most people beg borrow buy steal a crown from wherever and use those.
Sunbeam I dont think you will have done too much damage, but after you've moved them, once they grow next year, always take the flowers off as soon as you see them forming.
