Hi, the other month i invested in a small rasberry plant, the fruits are just starting to form now. I noticed yesterday that suddenly there are lots of new shoots forming next to it! I was once told that they spread quite quickly but i didn't expect it that quick

The new shoots only come up at one time each year - so the new shoots you see are the only ones you will get until this time next year...plus the cane you have will die off once it fruits. They're not going to rampage around your garden during the night - don't worry!

Hi Seed, I presume your raspberry was a container grown plant. Usually when new canes are planted they are cut back to about 8/9inches and not allowed to fruit in the first year so that the plant puts all its energy into forming roots and new canes. However with a container grown plant the root system should be good enough for a few fruits in the first year.

Mine is container grown and i have a nice lot of raspberries on mine "which i will be having with vanilla ice cream" it has now been well protected from predators, purchased it last year but only put it in this year. Have a nice lot of new canes growing so next year hopefully even more.
