  • Plum flowers now????

Can anyone help please??? My plum tree has grown about 2ft this year,
nearly fell off my chair when I saw 3 flowers this week. Ive pruned it back,
to half the new growth, why is it flowering now, does this mean its going to flower next year?? Can anyone help??

A few of my apple trees are doing the same: one of my D'Arcy Spice and my Pinova come to mind, although I think a couple of others may also be opening a few flowers. I haven't ever seen it on my plum, but my pears did it last year, but not this year (so far).
It doesn't seem to affect whether they'll flower or fruit the next year, but the late flowers don't tend to set fruit.
I put the second flowering down to either erratic weather or poor pollination. Apparently, there's even a modern pear variety (might be called "Invincible"??) with the main selling point being that it will flower a second time in an attempt to fruit, if fruit set is poor.

I had a Victoria plum that flowered about 3 weeks ago for the first time, I purchased it this year.
It had 5 flowers that I pollinated by hand to make sure. Watched them starting to swell every day.

I noticed they had all fallen off yesterday.

I guess it was natures way to say they are too late.
