Fruity novice.

Just had some speedy replies to my veg questions and am mighty impressed with the site. So here goes some fruity questions.

I have inherited some strawberry plants a pear and cherry tree a raspberry and gooseberry tree? bush?

1 we had about 5 strawberrys a while ago now there is nothing just loads of leaves, will I get more and should I leave the plants or do I need to do something with them for next year.

2 The raspberry and gooseberry plants we moved beg of the year. I have had about 10 raspberries and it seems okay in its new place the gooseberry however is now a stick have I killed it?

3 The pear tree is fine but I'm not sure what to do with it in regards of maintenance.

4 The cherry tree is just leaves will we get any cherries it is rather small.

Lastly our neighbour has blackberries which are spilling into our garden through the fence, I quite like them so is it possible to somehow plant them in our garden? They are growing near the kids play bit at the moment.

Good Luck with it all, I like fruit cops as you just let them romp away with minimal effort.

Any crop needs 1-2 yrs to get settled and start producing. Rasps spread like mad and depending on summer/autumn variety need support (summer fruit next year and need support and autumn fruit this yr and generally don't. I would separate rasps from other crops.

Gooseberry sounds dead - sorry, try leaving it another year if you can afford the space, otherwise get another

As for strawberries, I'm useless so try good ground, sheltered from wind, plenty of sun. Can't go wrong!
