  • Problems with apple trees

Has anyone got any way of dealing with bitter pit on my Lord Derby apple tree? I gave it a mulch of straw-y horse manure two years ago and ever since then it has had really bad problems - mottled fruit and now it has bitter pit inside. All ideas appreciated
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Manures and green garden waste are very rich in nitrogen. Too much nitrogen and irregular rainfall cause bitter pit.
Stop feeding it nitrogen and the problem will go away.

Ops - thanks for the info FB - all my tlc was a bad idea. After a bit of research I'll do a ph test on the soil and add lime if needed- - my apple trees are going to get the cold shoulder from now on - just 2 gallons of water every week and that is it!!
