  • what are these?

Will try and post a pic later.

The builder claims there are wild cherries at his mum's field.
    We dutifully go a-picking.
I am not convinced they are cherries at all. They are much larger, but they are round like cherries. They are not red, more of an orangy/yellow and some of them are purpley.

He tells me they taste a bit like plums.. surely then some kind of plum?

I thought wild cherries were red...

Wondering what to do with 5lbs of them...

Hi Jane have a look at the thread about 15 down from yours by rodofgod76 , are these the same fruits?

I was planning on jam and got NO jars left - eeeeekkkk. Unless I make HUGE jars.

Hmmmm, Can I freeze them for jam later? If so do I freeze them whole? Or detstone first?

          Thanks

I wash them, pat dry on a tea towel and bag up in 3lb lots for jam. Freeze them - the stones come out easier when they are defrosted as freezing softens the fruit a bit. you can squeeze the stones out with your fingers - very messy but fun!

They do really rather sound like mirabelles.

I found that the skins on the golden ones discoloured after freezing (when they had defrosted, I mean) However, I sliped the skins off while de-stoning them and now have a fantastic skinelss, stoneless yellow plum jam. There's a pic on my blog.

                        Well, that's why he's a builder not a gardener
                        He was half-right ... they're cherry plums aren't they?
