I have 5 crowns in buckets at the moment - when's the best time of year to replant them in the ground?
4 were split from existing crowns (thanks to squashysu's mum!) and the other was a very large crown dug up from elsewhere - all have produced well this year
Should I cut most of the stems before replanting?
I don't do horse manure, but I do have loads of all purpose compost that I can dig in - will that be ok?
When I've planted out small crowns from garden centres, they've all died, apart from 1 - I don't want these ones to die

I'd let the growth die down and replant in winter when they're dormant. Give them a good dollop of well rotted manure or home made compost when you do. They love it!
