  • Unhappy Tayberry/ Loganberry

    Hi all,

I planted a Tayberry (maybe it was a Loganberry ) last year, so was expecting a harvest this year. It has produced only very few fruit, less than a handful.

It didn't get great treatment last year, as my courgette kind of took over the space and I didn't train the vines up off the ground. Now last year's growth has sad-looking brown spotted leaves that are drying up.

Is this due to my neglect or something else?

Also, stupid question: I have a wire framework to tie it in, and am using string, but it is too slippery! The vines keep slipping along the wires and end up in a big bunch. What can I use apart from string?

Found this link for you about caring for cane fruit. Royal Horticultural Society - Gardening Advice: Cane & Bush Fruit Training The leaves you describe could just be showing the signs of autumn. They do lose their leaves through the winter.

Cut those right out and tie in this year's growth. They always fruit/flower on year-old growth.
