  • Just eaten our very first, very own water melon

Ok it was tiny, smaller than a charente, but it was a proper ripe water melon with red flesh and black seeds (which i have saved) and it tasted lovely.....i had bought 4 plants, onlt 1 survived and it only produced one piece of fruit but thats what gardening is all about isn't it?Trying new stuff??
    Will try again next year
The charentes arent ready yet....small and hard ....

Ooh, well done you. I tried but haven't succeeded this year - won't give up yet though.

        Nice one Jardiniere, well jealous.
I have tried for the last couple of years and failed miserably, didnt even bother this year, and its the warmest summer we've had for a long time. Pah.
Will try again next year though based on your success.

          Watermelon ! - thats impressive!

It would be interesting to know if you grew it outside ( I see you are further south than most of us ) or under glass / plastic
