Does anyone know if you can train a plum tree as an espalier? I have heard that you cannot but I don't know why. I already have a fan trained plum, but I have found this to be an awkward method of training. I have a couple of espalier apples and these are nice and easy to train, so I am hoping to do the same with a plum.

I think that plums tend to be fanned as it suits the way their branches bend and the way they fruit but not 100% sure. Personally I find fans easier to train than espalliers by the way! Funny old world...
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
