  • Is this pear trellis rust?

Hi there, is there anyone can tell me what this is on the leaves of my pear trees. I bought them as espaliers, planted them last year and have had no pears yet, just these small red marks on top of the leaf and underneath a collection of pointed spores. Looking at pictures from Canada (BC) I think it might be pear trellis rust. Can anyone identify it and is there any cure.
    Thanks.

      Hi,

I had this rust earlier this year. See my post asking the same question [if you search it will pop up].

The best advise is on this link Royal Horticultural Society - Gardening Advice: Pear Rust

Whether I have got rid of it I don't know, but a couple of sprays of systhane did the trick. I also bought and planted a couple of espaliers last winter - where did yours come from?

It looks like a rust fungus - my pears get small amounts of it occasionally, but I pull off the affected leaves before the fungus gets a chance to spread too much. I only need to snip off a handful of leaves each year - but don't put them on the compost heap!
If your trees have got heavy infection, it might be best to resort to chemicals, then switch to manual removal of infected leaves next year.

With simple pulling-off of the infected leaves, it's nowhere near the top of my list of worries for my fruit trees.

Ditto. I had it earlier in the year and just removed the leaves. As it's a damp liking fungus, I also weeded and cleared around the tree a bit to let more air and light in.

              Pear rust? Help needed.

I think I may have pear rust in the house I just moved into. I'm a new gardener so would appreciate any advice on what to do with the tree and the juniper. Thank you.
