  • and a strawberry question....!

I planted up, what i thought was going to be, a nice wee strawberry bed this year......life seldom goes according to plan does it!!

my lovely strawberries are now intertwined with horrible, horrible, horrible ground elder and there is no way i can now separate them.

so i am thinking to dig up all my strawbs and re-plant them somewhere else.

so is this a good plan?

    when should i do it?

and do i give them a haircut around now?

    thanks folks!

Laura, how many plants do you have in and how large is the area?

hello you! there's probably about 50 plants in all so too many to chuck I think. I've planted up some runners but only remembered to do it a couple of weeks ago so not sure if I've left that a bit late too I think!

Planning to dig it all over and add some brambles! guess where i got that idea from???

September is the best time to plant strawbs (or April).
It may be too cold now to get them settled in ... me, I'd wait till April and sort it then

Should be alright with transplanting now. I'm awaiting some strawberry runners any time now so companies are still sending them out at present time.

oh I'm in a quandry now!! It seems to have gotten awfully wintry today so i dont know if the soil is going to be a bit cold now or not - should i be giving them their haircut now?

I transplanted a load today, after I read on here that it may be too late. Oh well, fingers crossed. I don't think you need to haircut them, just remove any dead/dying leaves (I think)
