  • Apple variety Id please

    Hi Folks,

I wonder if anyone can id my 2 Apple Tree varieties.

Pics marked 1 and 2 are one variety, I bought from Aldi thinking it was a Cox.

Pics marked 3 and 4 are a tree I bought 15 yrs or so ago from Woolworths! I can't remember for the life of me what it is!

They both mature around October onwards.

    Any ideas would be great,

    Thanks in advance.

Difficult to tell what they are. There are so many varieties - thousands - and they can vary in appearance in different locations and in different seasons.
The smooth, shiny skin of the first one might be helpful. The second might even be a Cox.
It is not unheard of for the bargain-priced trees to be the one's that the label fell off in the nursery and they took a best guess as to what it was.

Perhaps take note of their flowering time next spring and take some pictures of the bottom of the fruits. Also note down any specific disease problems that they suffer from.
Next autumn, snip off a small branch with leaves and a couple of fruits and see whether a local "apple festival" can help. I believe that the Cambridge University Botanic Garden have one each autumn.
All information will be helpful to I.D. them.
