I just found a packet in the back of a drawer a packet of huckleberry seeds - has anyone on here ever grown any, and if so, how did you get on?

I did a few years ago- they grew into wonderfully large bushes covered with black berries- but they never became sweet enough to eat
We left them until there had been a fair few frosts too- but mine remained inedible.
It seems other peeps have had success with them.
I'm on different soil here- acidic sand- where as before it was acidic peat..I wonder if that would make a difference???
The seeds which fell to the ground germinated easily having overwintered in the soil.
They're certainly worth having a go at if you have space!"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

I grew these a good few years back (about 20!) and they produced a good deal of berries which needed loads of sugar to sweeten and were still tasteless! I think they would be great mixed in with other fruit though and they produced the most glorious dark purple colour - deeper than elderberry.Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?
