sarraceniac, can we have photos of yours chopped down to 2" for the winter, coz I'm really nervous about doing that to mine. Currently I've got one growing in a flower border, which I planned to fleece as is, and four babies (removed from the base of the parent plant) all in one large pot together with a double layer of fleece over the top.

I'll post a photo when I cut them down PB. They are currently in the g.house after summering in the garden. In fact I'll try to get a photo of one as they are today, pre-chopping, 'cos I just realised I don't actually have one of one of my nanas and I usually keep photos of everything.

You may be OK leaving one in the border where you are but here in frozen Yorkshire I wouldn't risk it. I know of one guy in the Garden of England who had dozens and left them out all year.
Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

Thank you sarraceniac, I'd appreciate that.

Here you are then. The one in good nick is a Basjoo, the one that is already dying back is a Sikkimensis. That one will be cut back in the next couple of weeks. The Basjoo in about a month. They are I think both 3 years old and so they will be put in the border next June (May in the South) and potted up again next October. They spent all this summer in medium pots but can't really grow big without room. Will post again after I have operated on them.
