  • Mulch/weed supressing membrane around fruit bushes?

Yay - at last, I planted my fruit bushes today (in the rain) and after all those hours clearing and digging it feels great to actually have something growing.
(Thanks to everyone who gave me tips re spacing etc).

Now they are planted there is a lot of bare ground around them and I am wondering whether I should put some membrane or other type of mulch down, to keep the weeds down - or will they grow so wide and bushy that weeds won't be a problem?

    Thanks in advance

Oh they'll be a problem... they're always a problem *chunters to self* You could chuck some muck around them. That'll help supress weeds and keep the moisture in. I need to do that this weekend - now they've been pruned to within a ninch of their lives.

Thats what I did with mine last year to good effect. I put a six inch layer of strawy manure around them and had no weeds to contend with and a really good soft fruit crop! Might top it up a bit this weekend!
