  • What to Grow on a Small Wall

I would like to grow some Fruit along a 5ft high wall. I was thinking along the lines of training the branchs of a low bush along the wall.
What type of bush should I look out for. I fancy a Rasberry of Blackcurrent.

Blackcurrants need to grow as a bush but Redcurants can easily be grown as cordons or fan trained. They will easily get to the top of 5ft wall, be quite productive and look a picture when full of ripe fruit

What direction is your wall facing jimfin? I have a Red current which I trained in to a fan on my wall, looks fantastic when its in full berry, but still looks good when its bare, I've also got a fig that I've also fan trained.

5ft wall allows you to grow almost anything up it - currants, berries, apples, pears, plums, cherries.
You could even consider growing things down it - such as hanging baskets/window boxes of strawberries.
South or South-West facing walls are also good for the less-hardy fruits, if you fancy a challenge (rather you than me! ).
        .

My wall is facing South West. When would be the best time to plant?
Made a mistake on the hight of the wall, it's only 3 ft high.
