Hi Folks - just a quick query - I'm about to launch my winter pruning and I wondered how I disinfect the pruners /loppers in between plants so that I don't spread any nasties. The GC was totally bemused by my query (but then, they usually are!)
At my new allotment gardening evening course, our guy recommended antiseptic wipes as the easiest and quickest way. He said they should be disinfected between each bush/shrub/tree etc.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day
I've used anticeptic wipes after cutting back blighty toms, don't know if this is best but I didn't get any more blight afterwards
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Thank you Caro and Alison - that's exactly what I will do! How practical. I'm surprised the big companies haven't brought out a range of these themselves at double the cost!
Dipping them in petrol is supposed to work but tbh I've never bothered!
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
TBH I never bother. Just wash in hot soapy water when they get gungy. Obviously if you're pruning something diseased then you should use extra disinfectant.
Last year my pruning kit included a bottle of a well known Vodka (note: other vodkas can be used with similar results): Rockingham Forest Cider: Pruning
On a grafting course we used disinfectant wipes, so perhaps best save the vodka for other uses...

Don't ever use vodka on your garden tools - DRINK IT INSTEAD

I have just given it a real pruning before it comes into leaf in the hope of getting some regeneration and the tree not having to work as hard getting water and nutrients higher up. If this doesn't work I'll replace it next year with something else.
