  • Soft Fruit Cane Planing Advice

    Hi all,

Have just been down the garden centre again (after breaking two spades, and a fork today.. have invested in some decent tools now though!) and picked up a couple more fruit canes.

I now have 2 x Rasberry (thornless & some yellow thing), 1 x Thornless Blackberry, and 1x White current.

The intructions on the cards say that I should plant them out ASAP, then on the next line down it says to soak the canes for 2 hours in water.

That doesn't make sense really.. after planting do I need to water them for 2 hrs?

What's the best way to grow them - they'll be grown up against a house wall, so would a trellace (spelling?) do, or should I stake + wire behind them - or bult a cane type structure behind them (don't really fancy wigwams over them).

    TIA!
    Chris

You should listen to your common sense.

You soak them for 2 hrs before planting. This is because they will be dehydrated from being in a shop

Thanks - I thought that was the case, just odd how it was numbered 4, out of 4 steps
