  • What size pots

I bought some strawberry starter packs in LIDL today. I cannot really call them plants as they were not growing. They were bare rooted in a plastic bag with 5 in the bag for Euro1.99. They were all fresh with plenty of green growth on them.
My question is, what size pot should I put them in, bearing in mind that i will bear keeping them in the greenhouse and not planting them in the ground.
If anyone is interested they had all varieties and seemed to be great value at that price. When i went back this afternoon they were already sold out.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

How about 3 plants to a 10 inch pot? I've never grown them inside, preferring to plant them out as I think they do better.

You could go for a hanging basket - they grow well hanging down.
They won't give a huge crop in year one but year two will be bigger.

Strawberry pots are another option. - Put 2 or 3 in the top and the rest from the holes or some herbs or something in the top and strawberries out of the sides.

I got a fair crop from 5 and 6 inch potted bare root strawbs last year, I cant wait for this years result as year 2 is supposed to be when the real harvest can be made! Watch out for wildlife though: squirrels ate a lot of fruit before it ripened.

          True enough, WW.
I had 6 plants on the go last year, one shrivelled up and died and the other 5 did ok. I pinched the flowers off a few of them after hearing that it made for a stronger plant but at the moment I don't see much difference between them.
I'm looking forwards to a nice big harvest this year though.

Definitely protect them with a net though - I lost almost all of my small number of berries to that.
