i have never heard of a crab cherry my guess would be its either a wild cherry or a bird cherry is it grafted at the rootstock if not it will turn into a monster especially if its a wild cherry.you can eat wild cherry berries when they are ripe in august that is where i stay.but the taste is a hit and miss with each individual tree some are sweet and others are sour pot luck on the other hand if its a bird cherry you cant eat them very sour and vile.

It sounds like they are missing the either/or marker in the label there!
Crab apple - yes edible after cooking
      Ornamental cherry - no.
It may be a case of grow it on to see what kind of tree it turns out to be!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

The graft leaves a lumpy scar. And they don't graft prunus onto malus - I don't think!
