  • fruit trees at Tesco

    Hi

I have just got 6 fruit trees in Tesco for £3.50 each. They were priced at £7 which is still good but obviously want to clear them

Did it mention which variety and which rootstock it was grafted onto?

    For example....
    Did it say
    "plum tree"
    "apple tree"
    "pear tree"

    Or
    "Victoria plum tree"
    "Golden Delicious apple tree"
    "Williams pear tree"

    Or
"Victoria plum tree, rootstock St.Julien A"
"Golden Delicious apple tree, rootstock MM106"
"Williams pear tree, rootstock Quince A"

Before everyone rushes out to buy these "bargains", they must check whether the variety - and especially the roots - are suitable for their requirements.

A Golden Delicious on M27 rootstock would only reach 4-6ft, whereas on M25 rootstock, it'd reach 15-20ft.....perhaps more on a good soil.

It gave the variety, I purchased Victoria plum, opal plum, apple jonagold, arthur turner & braburn. They do not specify a root stock but give a height of 3m/10 ft after 10 years. Mine will be fan trained as that is all we are allowed on the allotment
