  • Pot Size?

I have purchased a Cherry Tree, Kordia & Nectarine Tree, Prunus Persic

Both are ideal for the patio. Whats the best pot size I should go for?

    All advice welcome

Are they in pots at the moment? If not, how big are the root balls?

If they are bare rooted with not much root to speak of, pop them in 10 litre flower buckets (with holes drilled in the bottom) until they get themselves settled down. Then you can pot on larger and larger until their final pot size - I would suggest see what balances each tree as it develops.

I have apples, pears, plums, cherries and a nectarine all in 10 litre buckets and this year (their third summer in the buckets) they look like they now need to be potted on.

I have managed to unpacked them but the roots are still in the protected cover. I would say the roots look smaller than a football. Just was not sure if to put them in a large pot so I wouldnt have to repot them at a later time. Im hopeing they will be ok untill the wekend when I can go and look for the pots

        Thanks for your advice

a good cheap way of potting them for a year or so would be some 45 litre rubber trugs you can get for about a fiver each just make sure you put drainage holes on the bottom and the sides you dont want to spend to much money just in case your trees dont come on.

Have just planted some bare rooted trees in pots and have used the 2 for £8 size from poundstretcher. Realise this may not be much use if you don't have a poundstretcher. Must be at least 75lit as it took more than a bag of MPC to fill.
