Strawberry Query

I'm looking to get some more strawberry plants, and have got a T&M vouchers which I'm dying to spend!

They seem to sell a lot of their strawberries as either runners, or bare root...

What's the difference?

I would imaging that bare roots come to you as dried plants that need rehydrating whereas runners will come as plug plants. That's only a guess, hopefully someone will be able to give the proper answer.

I bought some strawberry plants from D T Brown earlier this year. They were bare rooted. They needed to be soaked overnight before potting up. They are all growing nicely, and the early variety Mae is flowering. I would say it is getting a bit late to buy new plants for this year. They will grow and fruit, but later in the year.

With regard to runners. I'm not sure. Strawberry plants throw out runners, which are easily rooted by pegging down in a pot of compost, to multiply plants. Are they rooted, or not? Might be more difficult to grow.
