Cherry Tree

Hi all

Have just been donated a dwarf cherry tree that is about 9ft high no idea what variety,it is currently sitting in a plastic tuff crate storage box,has just started growing leaves and has one lonely blossom! it had been grown in a pot then in the ground and then in to the box.

I assume it needs a lot more room that it has now so any ideas on what I can use to repot it?

I cant really afford any of the big pots I've seen and I don't think the big cheaper plastic pots will hold it

Are you sure it is a dwarf tree? 9ft is quite tall for a tree that has been grown in a pot.

I would check the root stock and how old the tree is.

If you have the space, I would plant in the ground away from any structures, I find cherry roots spring up like weeds. If it is a dwarf variety, then get a big pot about £3 for a 44cm plastic one.

Yep is definitely a dwarf (think it grew that big when it was in the ground) and Im told its "ooh I don't know...5 or 6 years old ...maybe"

Don't really want to plant it as have a crazy dog who chews trees for fun! she knows not to touch if it's in a pot

did think about a dustbin but rootball (hope that's the right word )is a very weird shape..kind of like a rugby ball on its side would be almost touching sides,would that be ok? wasn't sure how much room it would need
