  • Fruit tree feeding

I'm very new to growing fruit so I'm hoping someone can tell me if its okay to feed them with tomato food. If not what should I feed them.

At the moment its only my apple trees that are flowering. My other trees, plum, cherry, nectarine, apricot and fig, are all new this year, so would I need to feed them as well.

I should point out that they are all in containers.

You are doing the right thing for container grown fruits. Tomato feed has the correct proportions of NKP. For trees grown in the ground you are better to feed the ground with loads of muck and mulch.

Thanks Tam thats good to know. Last year my 2 apple and pear trees didn't get anything, so they are probably very hungry.

      Would you feed them weekly?

i dont feed them to often a feed in march with some blood fish and bone and once every 3 weeks in the summer with tomato feed in between just plain water if you feed them to much they will just grow and will not produce much fruit a little stress on your trees helps to produce fruit another trick i do is summer pruning in july which also helps for the following season works great on my apple trees anyway

Thanks Little, I just do that then. There's nothing really to prune on my tree as its one of the columnar ones.

I always like to add a handfull of potash. I get it free from an area that burn alot of silver birch wood.
