  • Spittle on strawberry plants?

Checked my strawberry plants that are in the greenhouse and the plants had what looked like "spit" on the leaves, white bubble like spittle.
What causes this and how do i deal with it....i just got the hose and washed it off?

Hey Ralf, It's a harmless insect. It surrounds itself with the spit (made from plant sap) to prevent itself drying out. I wouldn't even wash them away. It's the human glugs you gotta watch out for!

We call it cuckoo spit although it has other regional names. It's produced by an insect which is like an aphid and although the spit is harmless the insects feed on the plant sap and can carry viruses. It's a good idea to wash it off.

As the others have said: cuckoo spit, made for the larvae of the froghopper. It always affects my lavender, nothing else. I don't bother washing it off
