Blueberry

I have never rated the blueberry to be a contender against the blackcurrant for depth of flavour. That said I wanted proof for the pudding so bought a blueberry 2 years ago. Last year very little happened but this year I was impressed with the growth and flower development. What has gone wrong! All the flowers have turned brown and it looks really sad. I have introduced azalea feed and rhubarb leaves as mulch. HELP

Don't know if this is a workable solution, but I've had the same problem, so I've been widdling in a jug, pH testing it with my Wilko's pH and Moisture tester and if it's acidic: pouring it on the blueberries!
The one with brown leaves is slowly perking up a bit it seems.

I have struggled with blueberrys for years. I have been told you must have a pair of blueberrys ( this is why i never get many, eventhough its first couple of years it did well.)
Also a friend of a friend advised me to cut up a lemon and dig it in around the base of the bush.

I have dug in a lemon and also bought 3 more bushes from poundland. These are in pots ( ericaceous compost ) as advised by our friends here on the vine.

Hi Bren I have six different varietys and all flowers brown off then fall from plant, blueberries develop from then on, you will be fine

Thank you conn4000. You answered my unwritten question. This is my first year to have blueberry bushes. We bought 2: Patriot and Northland (?) and one of them has bloomed a LOT, but the blooms are falling off, and just a little brown "spike" is sticking out where the flower was. Will the blueberry develop from there? I can't wait to harvest & eat my own homegrown blueberries! They're so expensive in the shops!

at the moment my blueberry bush has got lots of pink buds that are turning into swollen white buds. will these turn stright into the blueberries or will the flowers turn brown and fall off first?

I have 5 bushes and I put tea leaves and coffee grounds on em . Theyre doing great

I grow blueberry bushes in pots - one for over seven years (!), it went metal last year, trying to feed the 5000+ and then some all on its own - bless it.

I keep them in ericaceous compost, never letting them dry out - and feed with seaweed extract once flowering commences....blueberry and white chocolate cheesecakes aplenty, and jam and all manner of goodly stuff

I have just the one bush and it's flowering it's little head off, last year I had enough berries to make 2 jar's of jam and enough left on the plant for Blueberry muffins. I find the flower's turn brown just before the berries appears.
I've potted mine on this year into some new ericaceous compost.

Just a quick query here, I thought it was best to give some feed after the flowers have fallen and the fruit is starting to form?

I think it's each to there own, but I start to feed more when the fruit's have started to form. I give them a feed just as there starting to burst into leaf, then again when there flowers are setting, but only a very weak solution of seaweed.

Thanks everyone. My bush (very straggly) was planted in ericaceous is watered with rainwater, fed with berry food and I dump my rhubarb leaves in the pot for mulch. I really do think that fruit is forming so will wait and see.

i have just been gifted a blueberry by a neighbour who is down sizing and its in a large pot.
do i wait till autumn to put it in a bigger newer pot. and what is ericsisters compost?
