  • Can I grow almonds in a pot?

    Hi

I have bought an almond tree - a pot grown 5ft Ingrid on St Julien A rootstock.

I planned to plant it in the front garden, but when it arrived with a touch of leaf curl, I started to have second thoughts.

Would it be possible to grow it in a big pot in the back garden so I can bring it into the greenhouse in winter? Or will it grow too big for a pot?

    Thanks for any advice.

It's meant to be resistant to peach leaf curl isn't it? I would have thought it wouldn't do so well in a pot.
It flowers early in the year so will need to be protected from frost, and possibly hand-pollinated to increase the crop

I had one a couple of years ago but it got killed off by the frosts. It did get peach leaf curl but not that much and I had a few almonds off it. The thing that got it was a late frost, the tree had started spring growth and was looking good then along came a frost killed all the new growth and it never sprouted after that. Will definitely have another one but will overwinter in the greenhouse.

TS - Ingrid is supposed to be very resistant to leaf curl but not 100%. Horrible looking disease

Goji - that is what I am thinking of. Keep her in the greenhouse until the tomatoes kick her out - about this time of year, then pop her back in for the winter.

My concern is that the GH apex is only 6' 8". I am worried that it might be harmful to cut her back and keep to a size small enough for the GH. Would the rootstock be compatible with that?
