  • Grapevine in greenhouse

Is it OK to put a grapevine in the corner of the greenhouse or will the leaves get scorched on the glass?

I would more suspect you'd get wet mildew if they have no breathing room

You should really grow them outside, they need cold dormant winters.

i have had a grape vine in my greenhouse for the past 3 years and this year it is producing its first crop of grapes so i don't think there is anything wrong in having a vine in the greenhouse, mine is a beautifully healthy vine.

Do you have to keep it away from the glass? I had one before but mildew got it. But that was my fault for not allowing enough circulation. Gonna be more carefull this time.

My 2 vines that were kept in a mini greenhouse did nothing but produce leaves. I had one bunch of grapes last year that withered before they go to pencil rubber size. Put one outside this year (just to try) and got loads of fruit. Could just be co-incidence that it's now a 3 year old plant of course but the one still under cover of the same age isn't doing as well.

It is normal to plant grape vines in Greenhouses in the North, and very successful they are. The traditional variety is Black Hamburg, but I also grow flame which does well. They need the extra heat of a cold greenhouse to ripen the fruit.
They should be trained along a wire suspended about 30 cm below the glazing.

When you say below the glass what do you mean? mine is fully glazed so do I just keep the leaves 30 cm away?

                    Thanks
