Is it the birds ?

Hello all. I have three redcurrants which until a week ago were laden with little green currants. Now it looks like they have been nicked !! We are in the process of building a fruit cage to protect all my stuff. Is it birds ? would they take unripe berries ?

I suspect that it was the birds. Blackbirds or starlings are the main culprits round here.
Birds seem to start taking fruits of all kinds (currants, blueberries, raspberries, cherries etc) about a week before the fruits are as ripe as we like to eat.

My actual bush was stripped of leaves. So were two grape vines and a blackberry!
