New to Apple Trees

I am going to plant the regulation three Apple trees including a Bramley, how long before I get any fruit and is there anything I should do to the trees during their first year in the ground.?

You may get a bit of fruit in the first year Colin. It wont be much but its still welcome.

Make sure the trees are staked and for the first year at least keep them watered in dry weather as lack of water is the biggest killer of young trees.

An added tip, when planting dig a square hole as occasionally with round holes the roots just grow round and round and never spread out into the surrounding soil.

One last one, for young trees keep a good metre area around them clear of any growth till they are established, a good mulch will help here, as well as keeping the area moist.

Victorians used to put a penny under each newly planted tree. To bring a good harvest. You could try that!

I dug plenty of well rotted compost into the ground beneath my newly planted trees. They have buds on already so seem to be settling in well.
I have a very old bramley and we had tons of fruit last year.
