  • Unknown fruit bush - any ideas?

    Hi,

We've got 2 rows of berry bushes growing on the allotment plot we took over last autumn and we don't know what they are! They've got a few green berries on and I've attached a photo - does anyone know what they might be?

    Thanks,
    Shmeen

    Hi Shmeen,
It's currant, (red/white or black) but you'll find out which colour when the fruit ripens.

      Yup - currant.
Looks more like a blackcurrant than a whitecurrant - based on what I've seen.

Yep pretty sure it's a Blackcurrant.

Yup, big berries, probly blackcurrant, white and red have smaller berries in racemes.

Agree it's a currant and I wish my blackcurrant had berries that fat!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Birds around here seem to be stripping the (green) berries off mine - you may wanna protect it some how! (netting?)

I don't think it is a pure currant as the fruit just doesn't hang right, it should be in strings for any of the currants. I would say it is the cross between a gooseberry and a blackcurrant called a casseille. Only my opinion but he final fruit will tell.

Blackcurrant gets my vote, they are not red/white currants.

Looks like blackcurrant to me. Just like the ones I got on my lottie donated by TS last year.

Have the same dilemma in a Customer's garden; She said what? I said Currant. She said what colour? I said wait n' see!

Then had to wedge the branches higher with a stick, as her Chooks were jumping up to eat them!

They look like fatter versions of my currants. I have the same problem, I have red and black but no idea which one is which. One will go red and one will go black
