  • Any idea what is on my apple tree?

The leaves of my Braeburn apple tree are curling over and going orange brown and dead. I noticed lots of ants on the affected branches and when I looked closely there are small grey aphids on the underside of the browned leaves.

Any idea what they might be and how to deal with them?

Could be wooly aphid. Try washing up liquid or some chemical against aphid.

Not sure if they work against ants but you might like to put a grease band around the base of your apple tree for a start as ants encourage aphids. If you don't want to use a chemical spray you will probably reduce the numbers by just using a hose pipe to jet the aphids of the trees.

Curling over will be aphids - the curled leaves protect them from predators and sprays (although sparrows eat a lot of aphids and ants from my apple trees).

Brown and dying leaves may be a few things - scab, late-stage mildew, or not enough water.
