Advice needed please. Both my Stella Cherry & Victoria Plum have had masses of flowers which have now gone, the trees are both healthy with loads of leaves but not a fruit in sight. Is this normal, do the fruits come later. Thanks.

Didn't look as if anyone wanted to reply to this one. If there are no fruit on the tree now then you will now have to wait till next year. The blossom is the start of the fruit. However both cherry and plum are prone to damage by frost(only the blossom) and there has been plenty of late frosts this year. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Victoria is usually very reliable and tends to have high proportions of pollinated flowers even in the poor years.
I suspect that the long winter damaged the flowers so that they weren't fertile. It's a common problem with the earlier-flowering fruits.
I only have a light crop of plums, pears and only a moderate crop of apples as a result of numerous very late frosts damaging the blossoms.
Occasionally a fruit tree will try to flower a second time, but the number of flowers in such instances is only a few and the fruits don't usually get enough time to grow to full size and don't usually ripen properly.
I'm afraid that you'll have to wait until next year to get some fruit.
The fruits of apples or pears should now be about 2p-coin-sized, cherries should be as big as large peas and plums about 1p-coin-sized..

Thanks for all of the replies, I put it down to a couple of things. 1. The late frosts we have been having & 2. They are both only one year old, the plum is approx 8feet high & the cherry a mear 4 foot so will look forward to next year. Thanks again.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”
