  • Moving strawberries makes them sad?

    Hi Guys,

It seems that everytime I move a Strawberry plant it gives in and mopes around for weeks and sometimes dies.

Am I doing something wrong or do they just not like being moved?

Any type of plant can droop if moved during the growing season, but as long as you keep them well watered they should eventually recover. The best time to move plants is when they are dormant.

I'm dying to say that of course they will be sad cos they'll be missing their friends...but I shalln't!

Strawberries are very hardy once they are dormant- Autumn through till new crown growth is the time to shift them- as Dave says

You've damaged the roots and they need time to repair - they need plenty of water for several weeks after the move........and some feed.

The longer they spent out of the ground, the more the roots dry out and the more root damage will have been caused.
