Fig Trees!

I have two lovely fig trees growing in pots and one of them has a large fig on it that will be starting to ripen soon,

However, I've suddenly noticed some extra TINY green figs growing. At first I thought yay more figs but my cousin said those baby figs don't count?

I don't understand what he means? Enlightenment anyone?

I am sure some one with more knowledge will enlighten you but I believe the small figs developing now will not grow big enough this season to ripen this year but In September, remove any fruit larger than small pea size. The remaining tiny, embryo fruit towards the ends of the shoots will over-winter and, providing they have protection from icy blasts, will ripen the following year.

It's the tiny figs that develop now that will give you some edible fruit. Usually the overwintering ones don't survive a frost and won't develop. But it sounds like you may have been lucky. Tractor boys is correct about removing the figs in autumn, but I think your small figs are the embryo fruits developing.
