I took over an allotment late last year and inherited 2 apple trees. I don't know the variety, although one of them is supposed to be a cooker. They appear to be biennial bearers, and this year is the dormant year. There was a little blossom in the spring but absolutely no fruit has developed. I am assured that last year they were laden down with fruit.
I have recently noticed that the leaves on the supposed dessert apple are browning or dying back. The brown stain appears to start at the tip of the leaf and work its way back. The brown area is dry and crumbles when crushed.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this, and whether there is any way of curing the problem?
Thanks
Rob
