  • Are these aphids and red spider mite?

    I have a patio Braeburn apple tree planted this year in Jan. It's been doing really well, producing lots of leaves but no blossoms as yet. Today I noticed that some leaves are turning brown and crispy (as in crumble when touched) and many small new leaves are yellow and dropping off the tree. On closer inspection there seems to be a web of sorts on some leaves.I also found this very tiny spider looking thing and some green things that jumped when I touched the leaf. I suspect they are aphids and red spider mite. I've attatched photos of them. Am I right and how do I treat them both together? Can I spray with one insecticide or will I need something for each problem?

    I can't make out what the bugs are (the camera hasn't focussed on them), but they don't look like aphids. Aphids don't jump, they really don't move much at all.

      1 = scab or not enough water.

      2 = not enough water.

      3 = probably an aphid.

      4 = probably harmless spider who'll be catching some of the harmful bugs.

        I think your tree is suffering from the heat and lack of water. The green thing could be a froghopper, but they usually surround themselves with a frothy substance (commonly known as cuckoo spit). Aphids don't usually jump.
