  • Bananas Anyone ?

    Hi guys
Ive have been down to the south to visit my Auntie? but what caught my eye was one of her neighbours had a giant banana tree in the middle of her front garden with no protection or nothing. I asked the owner what variety it was and can you beleive it he did not know. He said he had got it to fruit about 3 time in it 7 year life and he does not make that much trouble for winter protection.

So that got me thinking, i am on the prowl for a hardy edible banana, with a bit, well a whole load of luck will someday get fruit. I have seen Musa Basjoo but i think they are mainly ornamental.

So any suggestions or advice would be helpful

The neighbours banana may well have flowered but to produce fruit outside in the UK is most unlikely. Those varieties that produce fruit need high day and night temperatures throughout summer and winter.
