  • Smaller fruit

Well- it's not surprising really is it?
My goosegogs this year are just over half the size of last years- and my raspberries about 2/3 the size.

Interestingly I was sort of expecting the smaller size due to the lack of rainfall- but I must say I was surprised yesterday when we picked our black cherries.
Last year they were 10g each. This year they are 8g each.
I'd have thought that the deep roots of a mature cherry tree would have gone deep enough for the reduced rainfall not to have affected the fruit size.
    Well- there ya go!

Must say that the smaller fruits are packed with flavour to make up for it

I think it is a really good fruit year this year - given the caveats you have given, Nicos - the blossom earlier in the year was second to none! My blackcurrants have been superb- my apple trees have very little of the aphis damage they had last year - and none of the bitter pit. I have noticed three or four wild black cherry trees around the neighbourhood which I would never have seen before. And I have one elder tree and one blackthorn hedge marked for attention later in the year!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?
