  • have my fruit trees died?

i brought and planted some fruit trees in may. I know it was late but because of this they were 2 pound each and i can't resist a bargin. Anyway, the plum sprouted a few leaves which then turned brown and fell off. The other two i have no labels for but one is going great and the other showing no signs of life, one is a peach and one an apricot. On the dead looking ones if i scratch off some bark it is green and moist underneath. Any help or advise appreciated.

If it's all brown & crispy looking, it's probably terminal

I have had a plum that has done the same thing this year. Was healthy last year and this year was covered in leaf and flowers. They all fell off about a month ago, I thought it was lack of water??? When I scraped off some bark from a branch, it was green.
I have put it into a shady corner of the garden and hope it comes back to life next year.

Fruit trees don't really do well in pots, especially with the weather we've had this year - the frost gets to the roots, and it is difficult to keep them evenly watered. I presume yours is in a pot Wrex, as you say you've moved it to a shady spot.

Yes, I have about 10 different fruit trees in 50cm pots These will go in the ground when I clear the remaining five fir trees from the back fence line.

          Fingers crossed.

I have had two fruit trees do the same and put it down to the late frosts. I am not expecting them to grow now and will be contacting the supplier soon to be asking for replacements.

but when i scrape the bark away it is still green underneath so i presume it is still alive. I might just leave it in the ground and see how it is next year.

If it is green under the bark the plant is still alive. Something has shocked the plant causing it to loose it's leaves (In my case I think it was lack of water for a few days).

It's now a case of waiting and see if it is OK next spring.
