  • The dirty thieving barstewards!!

I went up the garden to pick my blueberry's and redberry's for my smoothie in the morning and every last pip has gone!!

I dont know why, but i thought the birds hadn't seen them, doh

All my hard work, well watering, has gone to waste. I was so looking forward to them. All i have left are pics in my blog. I feel a bit stupid now, as if the birds didnt know they were there

I hope they get the sh1ts now

Oh what a shame! I have a Mrs Blackbird who is sharing my redcurrants with me. I don't mind too much - there are plenty of them and she is taking them back to her nest in the ivy for her babies. Judging by the amount of twittering and squeaking when she gets back they are thoroughly enjoying them.

I chased a couple of Blackbirds out of my strawberry nets after work the other night, but it was too late and they had decimated them. Sad times.

They're working hard feeding their babies, so I don't mind them sharing a few. My strawbs are well over, but I netted the blackcurrants until yesterday. Then I pruned them, harvested them and threw a few down for the birdies. It's their wages for eating my slugs and grubs.
They also get soaked raisins which they love.

Know how you feel. It happened to me last year. But this year the cage is extra secure (I hope). I did wonder whether mice might have been the culprits, but much more likely to be birds.

Think I'd better go and pick the blueberries today......

I feel better knowing that they didnt single out just my garden. Last year i did net them but this year i only did the goosberry's, how daft is that?

I have a family of blackbirds in my ivy and they were really noisy till yesterday so i think the chicks have flown the nest now. I bet its the pigeons. They are the bane of my garden but in the last 3 weeks they have lost 3 nearly full grown chicks, 2 had their heads chewed off and the other was on the grass with half the nest. All a bit of a mystery. The fox would have taken them. A cat wouldn't have chewed the head off and left the rest, twice. We have loads of magpies and crows here but i cant see them doing it.......anyone?

I am not putting my washing out today but i will follow a trail of purple poo if i find one

Oh, yes - sweet kitty would do just that, catch baby birds for fun, play with it for a while, nibble a bit to see if it was tasty and then lose interest.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

The pigeon chicks were bigger than blackbirds and the whole heads and necks were gone but the rest of the bird was completely untouched. I thought they would eat the tastier bit, not the crunchy head and beak, yuk!

my cat managed to catch a pigeon from INSIDE the house once, when she was being kept in and 'recuperating' after being shot.
I think it must have landed on a window ledge, I used to leave bedroom windows open wide in that property because it was an upper maisonette and no-one would have got in.
Anyway, I came home to find dead pigeon at bottom of stairs with its head missing.

So its definitely the cat by the looks of it. I just wish it did it in its own garden. I am going to try and stop them nesting next year.

I dont suppose anyone knows how to stop them from nesting. I have tried my hardest but they got the better of me
