  • When to prune a fig

    hello all

We got a fig tree about 2 years ago now and it is in a container in our garden. I had not realised (stupidly I know) that it would need pruning so blithely left it to its own devices. Now its all leggy and not very bush-like at all andn nor does it produce any fruit, except one last year which dropped off in winter befopre it got big enough to eat. So following lots of googling, I am going to give it a radical prune at some point...I'm just not sure when this should be done??? It looks like Feb time is the best time to do this..would you concur? Any other tiops for fig-age would be most greatfully received!
If it ain't broke...fix it til it is!

I don't prune mine to be honest because this years growth is where your figs for next season will be grown. Don't pot it on ether...they love being pot bound, mines 5 year old now and last year was the first year I got figs of it. The tree will shed around half it's fruit all by its self, if you do decide to prune your fig...do it in the dormant months when its not growing.

Have a read at this...it tells you how and when to prune your fig tree. Hope this is helpful.
