  • Fruit tree ID please

    Hello everyone,

I have this tree in my garden. It flowers towards the end of Feb - small white flowers, and fruits in July. The fruits are like cherry sized plums. Does anyone know what it is please? and when it should be pruned? (It's getting rather large)

    Thanks!

My guess is that it is a damson. Just a guess though!

The other thought would be a bullace.

I was going to say cherry plum, but those are yellow or red.
You don't need to prune plums at all do you?

        Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I thought damsons were bigger fruit than these - but it's a dim and distant memory I have of damsons.

The need for pruning is down to space - I think it will soon be moving into the house if we don't do something!

If you must prune, then July or August is the time to do it - found a link here for you Royal Horticultural Society | Advice Search | Plums: pruning

Damsons are oval - mine are anyway! Some sort of small, wild-type plum I'd guess.

it looks to me its a plum of some sort.quite possibly it was planted by a seed from a plum many years ago and it has formed into its own variety

If they're small, they could well be bullaces. Lots of plum piccies on here
