  • Planting out Grape Vines

Sorry if this has been posted before. Had a look through a few pages of the feeling fruity section and couldn't see it but do you know how many results you get if you search for "grapes"? We could really do with a different nickname for us growers around here.

Anyway, I've got 2 grape vines sitting in pots that have never done anything in the 5 years I've had them and I read that because they're in compost, the soil is too good. I've got a third vine down the lottie which has produced in it's second year.

So I want to move the vines in pots down to the soil at the lottie. Could any of you lovely people please advise the best month / time of year to do this as I do want lots of fresh grapes each year.

Alternatively, I remember from gyo magazine an "all you need to know about...." article on grapes a few years back. Perhaps someone with a better filing system than mine (ie one that exists) could advise what issue it's in so I can dig it out and follow the instructions.

    Many thanks in advance,
    S

    I'd like to know, too.

I've just bought a grape vine and am pondering whether to put it in a large pot or on my allotment......

We had three vines in big 'long tom' pots for a couple of years. We replanted them about this time last year, into the raised beds next to our pergola...and look at them now! I've got loads of big bunches of grapes too (I've been thinning out the weaker bunches throughout the summer).
