Is this a crab apple?

I am hoping someone can help me identify whether the fruit in attached photo is a crab apple or not. I grew up in Africa so have limited knowledge of UK fruit and after looking at photos on the internet I am still not 100% sure.

I am hoping to make crab apple chutney/jelly this weekend if it is!

Ah..well..from a fairly newby fruit grower ( maybe best to ignore me...but as no one else has posted......)

Nope- they don't look like crab apples to me..more like pears for perry ( poiree)

Yes I have compared them to pictures of crab apples and thus my uncertainty... they do look more pear-like.

Are they edible? I will google your suggestion now...

Thanks for your help - they are indeed perry pears... no good for eating but great for cider making. We have a few trees in the neighbourhood I was planning to forage from... will have to keep looking!
