Late strawberry flowering

Last year I bought 10 strawberry plants and managed to kill them all by leaving them in small pots and not watering them enough. They were a mix of popular varieties but all fairly early ones I think and certainly no everbearers.

This year I returned from overseas at the start of June to find 2 strawberry plants in the ground nearby with fruits on them (not sure if they came from runners or self-seeded). They had stopped fruiting within a couple of weeks, i.e. by mid to late June.

During July and August I have turned those 2 plants into about 20 by pegging down the runners.

Now one of the new plants is flowering! Is this normal? Is it a desirable characteristic?

No remove the flower as this will sap the plant of energy that it needs to establish more roots and leaves for next year's fruiting.

My strawbs are flowering again too, and I'm getting one or two fruits off them. The spring weeds (groundsel, chickweed etc) are going for it too, as are my primulas
