  • Honeyberries

    Hi All

I have some honeyberries ready to plant but I am not sure how they grow. Do they climb or are they a bush? Where I site them will depend on what support etc they need.

I have looked through all of my books but the information is quite limited because they are on the more unusual side.

Any other experience would be a great help.

    Thanks

I have two which were no more than plantlets last year. They are bushes as far as I know or certainly seem quite bushy this year. (No fruit though) I think I am right in saying they like an acidic soil...

They are from the honeysuckle family, so are a climber. But they need to to tied to a framework by hand as they don't have any tendrils. As far as I know they grow about 4ft high and wide, will grow in some shade and require a normal free draining fertile soil.

Hmm not what I was told at all regarding needing to climb.
Mine seem ok on a poor acidic clay soil...so I guess they arent too fussy.

If you do a google search, it seems that the cultivated varieties form bushes. Pollination seems to be improved if there is more than one specimen.
